PCOS
Q: My doctor has just diagnosed me with polycystic
ovarian syndrome and told me to see a dietitian for help. I am wondering
why do I need to see a dietitian?
A: Polycystic
ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is frequently unfamiliar to the women diagnosed
with it. Characteristically women with PCOS struggle with weight loss,
have very painful, irregular, heavy or absent periods, increased facial
hair, male pattern baldness and acne. Regardless of seriously they focus
on weight loss they seldom experience success. Insuling resistance is
the primary challenge among those with PCOS. The dietitian's responsibility
is to address insulin resistance and weight loss which will be guidance
similar to a type 2 diabetic. Your dietitian will help you design a plan
to decrease insulin, decrease hunger and increase weight loss and energy.
