Kids in the Kitchen
Chicken Feed

 
  • 1/4 cup apple jelly or your favorite flavor jelly
  • 3 T. sugar or 1 1/2 tsp of sweetener
  • 2 T. margarine
  • 1/2 t. cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup peanuts or slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup shelled sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup coconut
  1. Turn over to 325 degrees.
  2. Put jelly, sugar, margarine and cinnamon in a saucepan.
  3. Cook on low heat until the margarine is melted and the sugar is dissolved, stirring all the time with a wooden spoon.
  4. Remove from heat and add oats, peanuts or almonds and coconut.
  5. Stir until mixed.
  6. Pour the mixture onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  7. Spread the mixture in an even layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Twice during the baking, sitr the mixture with a wooden spoon.
  9. Spread to cool on wax paper or foil.
  10. Store in covered container or plastic ziploc type bag for up to 2 weeks.
